Understanding the NEPA Gives Stretch Pool
What is the Stretch Pool?
The Stretch Pool is extra funding secured by the NEPA Gives partner foundations, thanks to generous sponsors—businesses, corporations, and individual donors. After NEPA Gives ends, this pool of money will be shared among participating nonprofits.
How is it divided?
The Stretch Pool is divided based on the number of unique donors who give to each organization.
The more individual people who donate to your cause, the bigger your share of the Stretch Pool.
What counts as a "unique donor"?
A unique donor is one individual who donates during NEPA Gives.
To count someone as a unique donor, we use:
Their email address, and
Their credit card number
Even if someone donates multiple times or to multiple organizations, they still count as one unique donor per organization.
Does the donation amount matter?
Nope! In the Stretch Pool, a $10 donation counts the same as a $500 donation.
It’s not about how much someone gives — it’s about how many different people give.
How can your nonprofit earn more?
Spread the word and invite as many different people as possible to give—friends, family, coworkers, neighbors, and social followers. Every unique donor helps increase your share of the Stretch Pool.
Example: How the NEPA Gives Stretch Pool Works
Let’s say the total Stretch Pool is $100,000, and there are 1,000 total unique donors across all nonprofits.
If your organization brings in 100 unique donors, that’s:
100 ÷ 1,000 = 10%
Your share of the Stretch Pool would be:
10% of $100,000 = $10,000
If your organization has 100 unique donors:
100 ÷ 1,000 = 10% of total donors
You would earn:
10% of $100,000 = $10,000
🟢 The bottom line:
The more individuals who support your nonprofit during NEPA Gives, the bigger your share of the Stretch Pool will be!
More unique donors = more funding for your cause!
