As the Director of Programming for The Cooperage Project, I have the best job in the world and get to see all of the creativity, flexibility, sweat, love, struggle, and joy that goes into the programs we offer! This is a truly special place that brings diverse volunteers, participants, advisors, and collaborative partners together to build something real that brings people together and, especially, elevates those who need extra care.
Small moments from the past few months that shine as highlights include being cornered by two of our Senior Gathering attendees and bullied into repairing my own dryer ("It's easy! Go on youtube!" I know who to call if I need help).... Attending a meeting with the Mayor to advocate for improved parking and accessibility for older adults after hearing firsthand accounts from our attendees... Listening attentively while a middle school student gave me the play-by-play recap of their (seemingly ordinary) weekend over cheese sticks and cucumbers at Pop-Up Club... Watching people roar with laughter as yet another crock pot of a full-on meal showed up at drag bingo (taking BYOB to a whole new level... Doing a *striking* synchronized swimming performance with my coworkers during the Cooperage Follies... I could go on and on.
We are grateful for all of the grant funding that supports many of our programs, but unrestricted donations like those from NEPA Gives are essential for positions like mine and the other behind-the-scenes staff and operations at The Cooperage Project. Please help us keep the good times going!
