Harper’s story began in hardship. She was a Mennonite puppy mill breeder dog, transported by train alongside two of her sisters and other livestock, headed for a live animal auction. When AABR volunteers learned of her situation, they took immediate action—sending a team to Missouri to rescue the dogs and fly them to LaGuardia Airport. From there, Harper and her sisters were brought to foster homes in Scranton, finally safe.

But their fight was far from over. Soon after arriving, all of the dogs became gravely ill with hemorrhaging diarrhea. They were rushed to an emergency veterinary hospital in the Hudson Valley, where they were diagnosed with severe parasites and intestinal diseases. For Harper, this marked the beginning of a long and difficult journey.

She required intensive gastrointestinal specialty care for nearly two years. The cost of saving her life was enormous, earning her the nickname “the million-dollar dog.” Thanks to unwavering dedication and care, Harper pulled through. Today, she is thriving and living the joyful life she always deserved.

Now, Harper’s journey can help others. Your support will help replenish the funds used for her lifesaving care—ensuring that AABR can continue rescuing and treating dogs in urgent need. Every donation gives another dog the chance Harper had: to heal, to hope, and to live.
