As an only child, I was thrust into the arts at a young age because my mom feared that I'd be shy...those who know me realize how laughable that thought actually is! That being said, I know the value that the arts -- and more specifically, performing arts, have for everyone.
As a college professor, I also recognize the importance of continual learning. This past academic year, I completed Wilkes University's Autism Letter of Endorsement program, including roughly 150 hours of in-class observation with some fabulous educators throughout Luzerne and Lackawanna counties.
Why you may ask?
Because one of my passions is making the arts more accessible to EVERYONE. The social and play opportunities that theatre can offer to those who are neurodivergent are plentiful. But more importantly, we all learn from each other. Inclusivity should not be a nice gesture; it should be the norm.
I have had the privilege of working with young people with all sorts of unique abilities. They have taught me well beyond what I have taught them.
So, consider making a donation to my fundraiser to purchase more sensory-friendly tools and to help make Act Out Theatre Group an even more welcoming space. SPECIAL INCENTIVE: If my $400 goal is reached, I will match it...and any amount raised over $400 will be marked specifically for this cause.
