Please help support Unified Track and Field at Holy Redeemer High School!
Unified Track and Field is an inclusive varsity sport that pairs student-athletes with intellectual disabilities ("athletes") and without ("partners") on the same team to train and compete together. Supported by Special Olympics, these coed teams compete in standard events such as the 100m, 400m, 800m, 4x100m relay, long jump, shotput, and turbo javelin, all the while promoting meaningful social inclusion. Teams are made up of people of similar age and ability, with partners assisting and competing alongside athletes to break down stereotypes.
Holy Redeemer is the only diocesan school to offer Unified Track and Field, and we began our affiliation with Special Olympics last year. Unified is not a buddy program but a "do-it-together" program. In short, it is an amazing program and, so far, is one of the most impactful programs we've brought to students and families.
Funding is provided via Special Olympics for the first three years to cover officiating fees and uniforms, but next year will be our last year receiving this funding, which covers the essential expenses. Beyond next year, we have no real funding source, so we are hoping our supporters will rally behind keeping Unified Track and Field alive at Holy Redeemer! Anything you can do to support Coach Jonathan Bilbow and his team will be greatly appreciated!
