Inspire the Next Generation of STEM Leaders

Imagine standing on the shore of a pristine glacial lake, testing the water for the first time, discovering the tiny organisms that keep ecosystems alive. For many students, that moment at Lacawac Sanctuary is the spark that changes everything.

For nearly 60 years, Lacawac Sanctuary has protected 545 acres of forests, wetlands, and the pristine Lake Lacawac in the Northern Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. But Lacawac is more than a sanctuary. It is a living classroom, where students and community members experience science not from a textbook—but in the field.

Every year, students arrive curious. Many leave inspired.

Some discover a passion for environmental science.

Some gain the confidence to pursue STEM careers.

Some become the next generation of researchers, educators, and conservation leaders.

Yet too many young people never get the chance to experience science this way.

The Challenge

Across our region, many students have limited access to hands-on science education. STEM learning often happens inside classrooms, far from the natural systems that make science come alive.

Without real-world experiences, many students never see themselves as scientists.

That’s where Lacawac makes a difference.

The Lacawac Future STEM Leaders Fund

The Lacawac Future STEM Leaders Fund helps provide transformative science experiences for students and aspiring scientists of all ages.

Your support helps us expand programs that include:

  • Hands-on environmental science education
  • Field research and citizen science experiences
  • Mentorship and STEM leadership opportunities
  • Workshops and symposiums that connect students with scientists

Through programs like our Girls in STEM Symposium, citizen science lake monitoring, and field-based school programs, students step outside, ask questions, collect data, and see themselves as part of the scientific community.

These experiences can shape a lifetime.

One Experience Can Change a Life

We often hear from students who say their first day at Lacawac was the first time they truly felt like a scientist.

They tested water quality.

They examined plankton under microscopes.

They walked forest trails with researchers who study the health of our lakes and ecosystems.

For many, it is the moment they realize: “I could do this.”

Why Your Support Matters

When you donate to the Lacawac Future STEM Leaders Fund, you help ensure that more students have access to the kind of experiences that inspire curiosity, confidence, and discovery.

Your gift helps:

  • Expand STEM education opportunities
  • Support mentorship and leadership programs
  • Connect students with scientists and researchers
  • Protect the future of environmental science and conservation

Most importantly, you help inspire the next generation of STEM leaders.

Help Ignite the Future

The scientists, engineers, and environmental leaders of tomorrow may be sitting in a classroom today—waiting for the chance to explore, question, and discover.

With your help, we can give them that opportunity.

🌿 Make a donation today and help inspire the next generation of STEM leaders.
