Community Intervention Center

The Community Intervention center is a small, non profit social service agency in Scranton PA.

 We have been serving the most marginalized individuals in Lackawanna County for over 50 years.  

We offer a safe, non judgmental, sober environment and believe in meeting our clients where they are at in their life.  

The agency was started in 1972 as a grass roots operation which was ran totally by volunteers.  Today, we are professionally staffed with 7 full time employees who bring a wide array of knowledge and experience to the agency. Our staff range from Social Workers, a Crisis Intervention Team Member, Community Health Workers, and Recovery Specialist. Each with their own unique talent and understanding to share with our clients.

 We are open 7 days a week, including all major holidays and serve an average of 75 to 100 people a day.   On an average week, we provide over 25 loads of laundry, 45 to 65 showers, and countless meals, snacks and hot cups of coffee. 

For many of our clients, we are the one reliable thing in their life. The one place they know they can go to, no matter the situation, to receive the acceptance, guidance and help they need in a non judgmental, safe environment.

Currently, The Community Intervention Center maintains our main agency, the drop in center, where we provide the services listed below to the homeless in Lackawanna County.   

We also have three Permanent Supportive Housing programs through HUD and one Safe Haven program.

Through these Supportive Housing programs, we have the ability to assist 26 chronically homeless individuals obtain stable housing in the community with the support of a full-time case manager. The Safe Haven can house 4 individuals with severe mental health disorders in a stable, home like environment with a full time case manager as well.
