Taylor Community Library

Who We Are

The Taylor Community Library was founded on March 17, 1953, by a group of concerned citizens representing the borough of Taylor. Through hard work and determination, materials, furniture, and equipment were obtained to start the library. The library was then housed in a dedicated room in the Borough Building. Tragedy struck in 1972, when a fire destroyed the Borough Building, including the library room and all of its contents. For the next 8 years, the library lacked a permeant building to call home and changed locations frequently. In 1980, the borough built a dedicated facility to house the library, and in 1982 a success tax referendum on a November election ballot saw the library formally joining the newly established Lackawanna County Library System. Shortly thereafter, the now thriving library outgrew its location, and in 2006 a new building was constructed through the borough’s generosity, which the library currently calls home.
The Taylor Community Library serves as a central hub of the community and offers a wide variety of classes and instructional programs for children, teens, and adults. Local service organizations and community partners meet at the library and make use of designated meeting space to conduct community outreach and hold educational classes. Some of the library's most popular programs include children's story times and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs. Teens can find programs and projects geared towards serving their local community, along with other programs, contests and more. For adults, the library hosts a variety of book clubs along with instructional classes and recreational programs. The library also offers free limited computed use, mobile printing, fax and photo copy services.
As a member of the Lackawanna County Library System, Taylor Community Library serves all of Lackawanna County, with a specific focus on the Triboro area. Patrons are invited to borrow any items available in the collection including CD's, DVD's, books, and periodicals. Many of the books are available in print, audio, or e-book format to suit all preferences and needs.
