NE Regional Cancer Institute

A nonprofit organization

The Northeast Regional Cancer Institute was organized in 1991 by Northeastern Pennsylvania hospitals and oncology practices that recognized the value of collaboration and coordination for community cancer control efforts. The Cancer Institute is unique in that it is an independent, exclusively local entity. This means that we have the flexibility to respond directly to the evolving needs of the community we serve. The Cancer Institute invests all of its resources in this region. 2021 marked our 30th anniversary.

The three main program areas that we focus on are: community and patient services, hospital and practice support services, and cancer surveillance.

Funds raised through this event will be used to support the Community-Based Cancer Screening Navigation Program. Your donation will help to continue this important work. The Navigation Program targets low income residents in Luzerne, Lackawanna and surrounding counties facilitating breast, cervical, colon and lung cancer screening, while establishing/re-establishing medical homes for the targeted population. Individuals with limited resources are less likely to receive recommended cancer screenings, more likely to be diagnosed with cancer at a later stage, and more likely to die from a cancer diagnosis.

Adherence to recommended cancer screenings (for the four sites indicated) reduces the likelihood of death from those 4 cancers.

Your donation helps support us in continuing our mission and programs.
