“Through the lens of the Catholic faith, we, The NativityMiguel School of Scranton, seek to empower our students, of all races and beliefs, to reach their full potential. We offer a holistic approach to academic and character development through our core values of faith and honor, integrity and respect, and leadership and perseverance.”
Our mission statement, found above, encapsulates the essence of what we do at NativityMiguel School of Scranton (NMS). Founded in 2015, NMS is an all-scholarship/tuition-free, private, Catholic, 5th through 8th grade middle school serving economically disadvantaged children of all faiths in the Scranton and Wilkes-Barre area. Committed to breaking the cycle of poverty through faith-based, holistic education, our work with students stretches beyond middle school; we mentor and support students for 12 years from fifth grade through completion of a college degree.
NMS nurtures every child’s gifts by providing opportunities for leadership, service, and engagement in the arts and athletics. Our program includes:
Our 69 students come from about 16 different countries, practice 8 different religions, and speak about 10 different languages. About 56.3% of our students identify as LatinX/Hispanic, 28.1% as Asian, 7.8% as Black/African American, 6.3% as Two or More Races/Multiracial, and 1.5% as White/Caucasian.
We also serve 101 alumni. These young men and women attend/will be attending many prestigious college preparatory institutions, including Scranton Preparatory School (Scranton, PA), Holy Cross High School (Dunmore, PA), Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School (Kingston, PA), Milton Hershey School (Hershey, PA), and Episcopal High School (Alexandria, VA). Our first 2 graduating classes will also be in colleges including Marywood University, University of Scranton, Boston College, Johnson College, and more! To date, our current 8th graders and our alumni have received financial aid and scholarship offers eclipsing $4 million over their four years of high school and collegiate programs.
As an independent school, NativityMiguel School of Scranton does not receive financial assistance for operations from local school districts, the Diocese of Scranton, or the state and federal government. We rely instead on the generosity of individuals, foundations, and corporations in our community. Your donation to NativityMiguel School of Scranton is an investment in the future of our middle school students and our continued efforts of breaking the cycle of poverty through a faith-based education.
Thank you for your generosity!
