For more than 85 years, Griffin Pond Animal Shelter has been a safe haven for animals in need. Established in 1938 as the Humane Society of Lackawanna County, our mission remains steadfast:

To investigate, help prosecute, and prevent cruelty to animals while promoting adoption awareness, humane education, and responsible pet ownership.

But our mission doesn’t stop at advocacy — it lives and breathes in our kennels, exam rooms, and play yards every single day.

At Griffin Pond, we care for over 200 animals daily — dogs, cats, and other companion animals who have been surrendered, abandoned, abused, neglected, or rescued through cruelty investigations.
