The Human Resources Center Foundation

A nonprofit organization

The mission of HRF is to enhance the quality of life and well-being of individuals with disabilities throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania, including the 55+ population.  We accomplish this by:

          1.   Providing financial support to our partner organization, the Human Resources Center

          2.  Awarding grants to intellectually disabled individuals requiring adaptive equipment

          3.  Awarding grants those over 55 who require modifications in order to age in place            independently and with dignity

          4.  Awarding grants to community organizations that share our commitment to advancing and supporting accessibility and opportunity for all

How it works....

At HRF, we accept grant applications year round from people and organizations in Wayne, Pike, Monroe, Susquehanna, Lackawanna and Carbon Counties.  Many of our grants cover the full cost of a ramp, a bathroom modification such as a tub cut and grab bars, a stair lift for second floor accessibility or other lifts to provide mobility assistance.

Their stories....

Individual Grant for a Man in Wayne County

This man was confined to a wheelchair and unable to use his shower. After approval of his application, HRF was able to arrange for the installation of a new roll-in, wheelchair accessible shower! This modification changed not only his life, but that of his care giver, as well.

Oakland Borough (Susquehanna County) was looking to revamp their park, focusing on an intergenerational and accessible space to bring people together. Their goal was to make a friendly, welcoming place for all ages and abilities to enjoy TOGETHER, now and in the future. HRF awarded an $11,815.00 grant to install a wheelchair swing and accessible merry-go-round. The playground is now used daily, and people are excited to see their community provide such a well-planned and fun space for all. HRF is proud to have been a part of the improvement plan.

Christian was born nineteen years ago and was diagnosed with such severe disabilities that he was expected to live only a week or two. Miraculously, his grandmother raised him until her recent death. When a family friend volunteered to take over Christian’s care, HRF stepped in to help. A grant of $20,000 was awarded to this family and used to remove black mold and install an ADA approved bathroom, as well as to build an outdoor ramp for safer mobility to and from the van. Additionally, because of the rural location of the home, a generator was installed so life-giving equipment could be used during electrical outages.
