Special Olympics PA Bradford Sullivan

The mission of Special Olympics PA is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community. Bradford Sullivan Special Olympics is the local delegation striving to join in this mission for the athletes in our counties.  Athletic competition is the motivator that beckons those with intellectual disabilities in our communities to participate in programs promoting healthy lifestyles.  Success in physical fitness programs is not only healthy for the body, but also the mind.  The sense of pride and belonging that comes with participating in Special Olympics provides great joy and purpose to our athletes.  Special Olympics strives for inclusive activities where athletes without disabilities join forces with our athletes and compete together.  This is a way to forge ongoing relationships and appreciation for individuality within communities off the field.  We also offer Athlete Leadership opportunities the help the individuals with leadership skills that often transfer to daily living and makes them successful members of their communities.  We've had several athletes chosen to participate in USA Games and one that was chosen for World Games. What great experiences for the athletes of our area.  We hope to continue this success and to grow the number of athletes that we are able to serve.
