Who We Are

For over forty years, Bread Basket of NEPA has been a community resource working to combat hunger and food insecurity throughout Lackawanna County. We operate with one staff person and a dedicated team of volunteers who ensure that our neighbors have access to nutritious food during times of hardship through our network of seven food pantries.

Today, our mission is more urgent than ever. Due to federal funding cuts, supply shortages, and Pennsylvania’s delayed state budget has created a crisis that threatens the stability of food assistance programs across the region. As a result, approximately 30,000 vulnerable residents in Lackawanna County are at risk of going without the nourishment they need to survive and thrive. An estimated 6,000 are children.

Our network of seven food pantries provides a compassionate, dignified environment where anyone in need—regardless of background, belief, or circumstance—is welcomed and supported. We believe that access to food is a fundamental human right, and we work tirelessly to ensure that no one in our community is left behind.

In addition to our pantry services, Bread Basket of NEPA is one of the few agencies in the region participating in Project Dash, a partnership with DoorDash that delivers food directly to individuals who face transportation barriers. This initiative has become a lifeline for seniors, individuals with disabilities, homebound residents, and those living with mental health challenges.
