About Eastern Monroe Public Library

The Monroe County Public Library d.b.a. Eastern Monroe Public Library serves Monroe County, Pennsylvania, with a mission to provide free and equitable access to information, education, and community resources for all ages.

Established in 1916, the library system includes:

  • Hughes Main Library in Stroudsburg
  • Library of the Smithfields
  • Bookmobile outreach services throughout the county

The library offers books, digital resources, public computers, educational programs, and community events that support lifelong learning.

Many people assume libraries are fully funded government agencies. While we do receive local tax support and state funding, these resources cover only part of our operations.
