Citizens for Pennsylvanias Future

Since 1998, PennFuture has combined legislative advocacy and legal enforcement at the local, state, and federal levels, educational outreach, and civic engagement support for just and equitable environmental outcomes that improve the quality of life for all Pennsylvanians. PennFuture has stood at the forefront of major environmental milestones in Pennsylvania as a bold and vigilant defender of communities against pollution and environmentally harmful policies. We have offices across Pennsylvania, including Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Erie, and the Poconos.

PennFuture's NEPA activities in 2025-2026 include: 

🌿 Our Legal Team is working with NEPA-based municipalities to pass PennFuture’s data center model municipal zoning ordinance. Our ordinance was designed for PA municipalities to quickly update their land use zoning laws to protect its environment and communities from the impacts of data center proposals, with suggested provisions addressing water consumption, power consumption, noise, and other concerns. 

🌿 Our Legal Team jumped into action to defeat the rollback of a water pollution reporting rule promoted by a big corporation! We stopped this anti-spill reporting regulation at the legislative level and regulatory level by filing scathing technical and legal comments and inspiring over 800 PennFuture members to submit their own comments in opposition. PennFuture’s actions accounted for over 70% of the total comments on this bad regulation!

🌿 Our Campaigns Team advocates for stronger Clean Water, Clean Air, and Energy Affordability legislation locally and in the halls of Harrisburg and Washington, D.C. We are striving for consistent annual funding to protect thousands of miles of waterways and drinking water for Pennsylvanians, including within the NEPA headwaters region. Clean water, clean air, and an affordable cost of living is something that we all here in NEPA hold dear as a way of life.
