Child Development Inc

Child Development Inc. is a private, non-profit corporation (501c3) in good standing with the Department of State since 1982. We are a proud member of the Schuylkill United Way since 1998.

 Our mission is to work with families and the community to provide high-quality, comprehensive, early childhood education with an emphasis on family engagement and supportive services that prepares each child for success in school and a lifetime of learning. Access to and investment in publicly-funded, high-quality, comprehensive, preschool programs must improve if Schuylkill County is to secure a brighter future for its children, families, and communities.

We are a grantee for the federally funded and state funded Head Start Program currently funded for 299 children and families. We are a PA PreK Counts grantee currently funded for 216 children and families. We have participated in Keystone STARS since the program began in 2002. Our eight facilities (total of 30 classrooms) with 3 licensed/certified for child care, as well as, stand-alone Head Start and PA PreK Counts, have been awarded STAR 4 Designation - the highest level of quality in Pennsylvania.

We provide wrap-around child care services for our Head Start and PA PreK Counts children whose parents are working or in post-secondary education/training programs. We provide Schuylkill United Way Scholarships and Education Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) PreK Scholarship to offset the cost of child care for these working families and to ensure that children receive a consistent, continuous, and high-quality preschool education.

Since 2018, we have partnered with Community Services for Children Inc. and have been the subcontract for the Early Learning Resource Center (ELRC) for Region 13. ELRCs provide families with information on quality child care and personalized child care referrals to providers based on specific needs or preferences.

We received recognition from the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce as Non-Profit of the Year. We were the runner-up for the Ted Daniels Community Development Award—Northeastern PA Nonprofit & Community Center for the Schuylkill SMILES Project to improve oral health education and prevention in our county.

Child Development Inc. has received annual state recognition since 2011 by the Pennsylvania Early Intervention Technical Assistance for full implementation of program-wide Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) at the Universal Level with Fidelity, and since 2018, for full implementation at the Universal Level and Tier II Level with Fidelity.
