The Summit: Center for Wellness

Loyalsock Foundation's mission is to build The Summit: Center for Wellness, a multi-generational, regional wellness & community center with facilities for health, fitness, education, and outdoor recreation located in Laporte, Sullivan County, PA. 

The vision for The Summit began in 2006 when the Sullivan County Recreational Association (SCRA) was formed with the idea of building an indoor wellness center to serve Sullivan County year round, benefitting both residents and visitors to the county. Over the years, the SCRA focused its efforts not just on fundraising for the facility, but also improving the existing recreational opportunities throughout the county. 

In 2019, the SCRA partnered with Loyalsock Foundation and laid the groundwork to bring the dream into reality. With Loyalsock Foundation's purchase of approximately 72 acres contiguous to the county's sole K-12 school in Laporte, plans moved forward to focus the vision. 

The Summit Loop trail was developed and opened to the public in 2023, becoming a popular walking destination. Concept designs for the main building have been developed, and in 2024, the permanent driveway was installed. Critical infrastructure moved forward in 2025, with the installation and drilling of the well. The septic and electrical systems will be installed in the latter part of 2026. 

This year, our priority project is The Landing, a single-room, multi-purpose community space designed for programming, fitness classes, workshops, and community meetings. It will serve as a flexible, functional space that supports The Summit’s health and wellness mission while providing year-round indoor gathering capacity. The Landing will enable The Summit to begin offering immediate fitness and educational programming while the main facility is constructed. 

Loyalsock Foundation has secured $457,000 in federal FY24 Community Project Funding through former US Senator Casey. However, in order to move forward with construction, additional funds are needed to close the gap. 

All donations received through NEPA Gives will be designated for construction of The Landing. Loyalsock Foundation and its volunteers continue to work hard to create a campus and facility with the most impact on health and wellness in Sullivan County. 

We love Sullivan County, and we want our residents to lead healthy, vibrant lives. To get to The Summit, we continue to take one step at a time with our vision firmly in place. Although the climb may be steep, we believe in our mission.
