Spotlight PA (spotlightpa.org) is an independent, nonpartisan, and nonprofit newsroom dedicated to high-quality investigative and public-service journalism about the Pennsylvania state government and urgent statewide issues.

Spotlight PA was founded as a bold, collaborative answer to the rapid and significant decline of corporate-owned, for-profit media in our state, resulting in drastically reduced coverage of issues vital to Pennsylvanians. Residents have fewer trusted sources of information about what's happening and why. Across the state, businesses, nonprofits, and local governments are struggling to get the word out about what they're doing. And those with power and influence aren't getting the scrutiny they require, which research tells us can cause everything from wasted tax dollars to an uncompetitive business environment and weaker economy.  

Spotlight PA ensures professional reporters are watching out for our tax dollars, holding our elected leaders in Harrisburg and statewide to account, and driving significant change for the better in all corners of the state. Our journalism is produced to serve the public interest — not profit motives. That’s why we don’t charge for access to spotlightpa.org, and we share our journalism with 125+ newsrooms in the state for republication at no cost.
